Once international travel resumes and everything Covid-19 quietens down, pack your bags and head for South Africa, here’s why…
Let’s Find out what are the “Reasons to Travel to South Africa “
You Need to Leave your Home
Many countries around the world (including South Africa) have been under lockdown for a while, some as long as 2 months to contain the spread of the virus. 2 Months in an apartment is a recipe for cabin-fever and some serious anxiety.
It’s time to make up for the things you’ve missed out on; socializing, shopping, nightlife, outdoors, beaches maybe a safari and some immersive adventure experiences to hit the reset button. Our trip to SA has all of this and then some you’ll only see the inside of a room when it’s time to rest after our busy days!
Everybody is on a Budget
It’s been difficult earning a living under lockdown with salaries being cut and the world heading towards recession. Budget friendly will be the first thing on any travellers list of requirements and destinations that get the most bang for your buck are going to be more important than ever. Put South Africa at the top of your list.
SA’s Rand has been weakening long before the Covid-19 pandemic even began and it hasn’t stopped. At the time of writing 1USD gets you 18.68ZAR, the average price of a beer in a bar in SA is ZAR19.00, and the price for a decent bottle of wine is ZAR65.00 (https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/country_result.jsp?country=South+Africa) you do the math but we think that’s pretty reasonable. Expect awesome accommodation, excellent food and unforgettable experiences at extremely reasonable rates.
South Africa’s Response and Containment of Covid-19
South Africa reported it’s first Covid-19 case on the 5th March 2020 and the country was put into national lockdown on the 27th March 2020 for 5 weeks. We think that’s pretty impressive.
Extensive testing for the virus is being conducted throughout the country and stages to relieve lockdown restrictions put into effect from May 1st. Things are by no means normal yet, but South Africa’s response to the outbreak means it is likely to recover quicker and be safer choice for international travellers once flying is permitted.
Want to see Your Money Go Somewhere Good?
Of those most affected during this pandemic are businesses that directly benefit from tourism and international travelers. National Parks, wildlife reserves, and sanctuaries are a special part of the Backpacking Tour Co. trip and we want to see them recover as soon as possible so they can continue doing their awesome jobs.
We feature a variety of sanctuaries and national parks on our trip that do special things to contribute to South Africa’s endangered wildlife and your visit to any of them ensures their continued efforts for their worthy causes.
Covid-19 has wreaked havoc on some of the smaller towns and lesser-known communities featured on our trip that rely on tourism to make ends meet. The sooner international travel to South Africa gets back to normal the sooner they’ll bounce back!
Meet New People
Socialising has not been a top priority in 2020. With social distancing and lockdown measures implemented worldwide, people are anxious to get out, throw back some drinks and socialize with some unfamiliar faces.
What better way than doing it by joining a group of strangers (with similar interests) and sharing in some awesome travel memories on an adventure filled trip across South Africa!
Our 2021 trips are up and ready for booking, we anticipate things to clear up by then and travel slowly picking up. With that we also expect some significantly reduced prices for flights so it might just be the best time to start planning a trip to South Africa.
