Great White Shark Cage Diving

The frigid waters of the Western Cape of South Africa attract a plethora of wildlife. Penguins, seals, birds, whales and fish are abundant as are the animals that eat them. Great White sharks. The cold waters off the cape are renowned as one of the best places in the world to get into this fishes environment and face to face with these predators.

There are many people against the practice of shark cage diving as they say it conditions the animals to being around humans and they start associating us with food which is slightly problematic. We feel it’s a practice which contributes to the conservation of the species whose numbers are already in decline. The choice is yours but if you’re looking for a rush, suit up and get in a cage centimeters away from these amazing beasts!

Kitesurfing Cape Town

The summer months of Cape Town bring in the Cape Doctor, a strong South Easterly wind which blows almost like clockwork every day for a period of about 4-5 months. This wind is renowned among kitesurfers and Cape Town has become a mecca for the sport. So much so that it hosts the annual King of the Air competition which draws huge crowds and serves to crown the most fearless kiter in the world.

Cape Town’s (and a lot of other South Africa’s other) beaches are the perfect place to learn this insane sport that see’s riders get up to 30m in the air while doing some mind-bending tricks! Search for some of the local kitesurfing schools and definitely do lessons before buying any of your own gear.

Check out Board and Kite South Africa for lessons and gear.

Jeffrey’s Bay stands out as the most internationally recognized surf spot and features on the international competitive surf calendar as one of the stops of the tour.

Surf schools are dotted along the South African coast from Durban to the Western Cape and you’ll never have to look far to find a surfboard to buy or rent. It’s definitely a must try activity for anybody that gets a kick out of some extreme sports.
