HIGH-RISK COUNTRIES DUE TO COVID-19 (Source: EWN.co.za)

How do they determine which countries can/can’t enter?

Any individual traveller wanting to enter into South Africa for any type of travel will need to make sure to read this otherwise you’ll face COVID-19 mandatory quarantine at your own expense as travelling is far from “normal” at the moment:

“Key Points from the president’s speech regarding International Travel to South Africa”

Since opening her borders, South Africa has graded countries using a three-tier system. Low, Medium and High Risk. Countries deemed to be High Risk are not allowed to enter South Africa for leisure travel.

Countries of medium or low risk are permitted to enter South Africa provided that on arrival each traveller presents a negative COVID-19 PCR test result that is not older than 72 hours from the time of their flight’s departure. Travellers must also be symptom-free on arrival in South Africa. Also make sure you have Travel insurance (that covers COVID-19 treatment) as it will be required by airlines before boarding flights.
